Bad thing: this is probably the smokiest place I have ever been. Of course, the area surrounding the casino is beautiful, and it's worth walking over to the attached hotel to see the Native American art, the attractive architecture, and the cool signs that are all bilingual (English and Cherokee).

The restrooms are usually clean (some more so than others). The self-serve soft drink machines scattered around the casino floor are convenient and offer a pretty big variety of drinks. Gee, I wonder which denominations they want you to be playing? Nice things: the waitresses come around frequently with (non-alcoholic) drinks, and most of them are friendly. On the other hand, the quarter and dollar slots are usually deserted, in better working condition, and there's a better variety of titles. You don't get to be very choosy about what you want to play if you're looking for low-denomination slots. There are quite a few penny slots, but they're also the most popular, so you have to hunt for a vacant one that's working. On our most recent visit, one of my friends had to wait 25 minutes when her ticket dispenser was out of paper. However, if you do have a mechanical problem or need an attendant, get comfortable, because it'll take a while. On the plus side, all the machines dispense tickets rather than change, which cuts down on the waiting around for jammed hoppers or coin refills. Also, there are lots of broken machines (black screen), machines whose bill acceptors aren't accepting, and machines that are working, but have fuzzy graphics and no sound. Most of the machines at Harrah's Cherokee are older titles that have been around for a while (Texas Tea, Little Green Men, etc.), and the handful of newer games are so popular you probably won't be able to get anywhere near them.

That said, I don't know that Harrah's Cherokee is any tighter than the high-end places on the Strip in Vegas that are famously tight. Of course, when you're the only game in town, you don't have to have competitive payouts. As others have mentioned, the machines at Harrah's Cherokee are extremely tight - certainly tighter than in the other places I mentioned.

I can't help but compare this place to the casinos in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Tunica, which is probably not fair since it's not in the same league as those places, but it's hard not to compare. The other reviewers have hit on the problems. It's not awful, but it's not a lot of fun, either. I recently went to Harrah's Cherokee for the first time in several years, and going back made me remember why several years had passed.
